Nov 03, 2017

IE expo Guangzhou 2017 came to a successful close on September 22 at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou. This year, 418 exhibitors—a rise of 38 percent—from 20 countries and regions showcased their environmental products and services on 28,000 square meters of floor space. 24,760 trade visitors participated in this three-day event, representing an increase of 24 percent compared to 2016.

Environmental hub Guangdong

For Yuezhou Ou, President of the Guangdong Association of Environmental Protection Industry, the new record numbers for IE expo Guangzhou underline the growth potential of the environmental industry in Southern China: “The annual output value of the environmental protection industry in the Guangdong province exceeded 600 billion yuan in 2016. There is far more space for external investment. The success of IE expo Guangzhou reflects the determination of the government and industry to develop this sector, and the intention of enabling environmental enterprises to become stronger.” In the spring of 2017, the Chinese government announced an Energy Saving and Emission Reduction Plan for Guangdong Province during the 13th Five-year Plan: 44 key projects in the area of recycling, with an investment of about 20.5 billion yuan, are expected.

Gang Jiang, General Manager of Messe Muenchen Zhongmao, adds: “This incredible development of IE expo Guangzhou shows that Southern China urgently required an effective one-stop platform to seek new technologies and to exchange ideas and experience in the environmental industry. We are pleased that our trade fair has now become this platform.”

Increased internationality

Among the 418 exhibitors were many international ones. Enterprises from Hong Kong, Macao, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea as well as Taiwan chose IE expo Guangzhou 2017 as a platform for developing their business in South China. Insoo Kim, Senior Researcher at the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI), said: ”Compared to similar exhibitions in South Korea, IE expo Guangzhou has a very large flow of visitors and many people stopped at our booths.” In terms of visitors, the best represented countries after China were Vietnam, the Philippines, Hungary, Malaysia, Brazil, India and Albania.

Wenmu Huang, Deputy Director-General, Department of Environmental Protection of Guangdong Province, said: “IE expo Guangzhou has grown to become South China's most influential and high-quality business platform for environmental protection. The exhibition has a positive influence on promoting the development of the environmental protection industry in Guangdong under the new regulations and policies.” Also Tao Wang, Executive Vice Director, General Manager of Governance Division of Infore Environment Technology Group Co., Ltd, expressed his satisfaction: “IE expo Guangzhou has achieved significant improvement in show space, visitor quantity and quality. More professional visitors and end-users came to our booth, and also the expert forums benefited us a lot.”

Part of the supporting program was the Innovative Technology Conference. Nearly 200 experts and industry leaders shared their technical experience with more than 2,500 industry peers. Furthermore, aiming at providing a more effective setting for supply and demand, several business matchmaking events were held during the show, with trade buyers from 17 countries and regions. The business events were supported by the Guangdong Association of Environmental Protection Industry, Department of Environmental Protection of Guangdong Province as well as industry associations and chambers of commerce.
