Omdurman Water Supply and Optimisation Scheme, Sudan
Biwater has been involved in the provision of water treatment facilities to the continent of Africa for many years. Never has the need for the provision of clean, safe, potable water been a higher priority within the burgeoning populations of the nations of Africa than at the present time. The United Nations' millennium development goals have pledged to 'reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water' and many of you will know that the millennium development goals were set to be achieved by the year 2015. Biwater is pleased to report that it will help to achieve this goal for a large number of people in what is a new African territory for Biwater, the Republic of Sudan.

Grundoram to the rescue: Grundoram Taurus rescues long undersea HDD recovery operation on the Berri Causeway project in Saudi Arabia
In 2007/8 a pioneering HDD project was started using Trenchless Technology on the Berri Causeway and Abu Ali Island on the Persian Gulf coast of Saudi Arabia. Two parallel 3,050 metre long steel pipelines were to be installed under the bay. The smaller one to be used as an oil trunk line (24'') and the larger one with a total steel pipe weight of more than 1,500 tonnes will serve as a water injection line (30''). Previously published press releases claimed these as the ‘world’s longest undersea HDD crossings ever undertaken.

Dynamic Robbins TBM will Adapt Mid-bore

Rehabilitation of a combined sewage collector within a groundwater protection area by application of the GIPP method
The Entsorgungsverband Saar (EVS) is an association of various municipalities within the Saarland (federal state located in South-West Germany) responsible for the waste water collection and disposal within this specific area. The regional sewer network, which amounts to more than 1000 km, is subject to ongoing TV-inspection and evaluation. The main collector number 1.3 "Heimlinger Tal", located in the northern Saarland, already made part of this survey.

Con Edison installs over 65 miles of new gas main in 2008

100 Years Modern Water Supply in Stara Zagora, BG
On October 3rd 2008 the town Stara Zagora celebrated 100 years of modern water supply. The first networks, however, were built long before 1908: Stara Zagora with its 120,000 inhabitants is situated in central Bulgaria and is known for its ancient Roman water supply system. During the town’s recovery and rise from the ashes of arson and pillage during the Russian-Turkish liberation war in 1877-1878, ancient relics dating back to the 6th century B.C. were found and preserved for the public. Archaeological findings amongst these were clay pipelines and aqueducts which were built during the Roman times and which already then carried water over great distances for the town’s supply.

The new egeplast HexelOne pipe makes possible both high-pressure applications as well as a reduced usage of material in familiar applications. The reason: As compared to the existing polyethylene pipes, it has about double the strength. The new plastic pipe is made from polyethylene only in a new manufacturing process - the HexelOne process. In this method, even residual pieces can be recycled, making it environment-friendly. This is an important advantage, especially in times of continuously increasing raw material costs.

Herrenknecht increases trainee quota
In 2008, Herrenknecht AG has once again created new apprenticeship training positions. 65 young men and women began their working lives in fall 2008 by taking up either an apprenticeship or a cooperative education program. The number of trainees has increased by more than 20 percent compared to the previous year. Herrenknecht is providing training to a total of 178 young people. In spring 2009, the trainees and the team of trainers will be moving into new premises which have a useable floor space of about 2,800 square meters.
