Glenfield Invicta Awarded Prestigious Penstock Supply, Installation and Service Framework Contracts by Thames Water

Dec 11, 2020

Glenfield Invicta has been awarded penstock supply, installation and service framework contracts by Thames Water. The framework contracts are for an initial three years with the potential for a further five years extension. The contracts came into operation on 1 October 2020.

Thames Water is the UK’s largest water company, providing water and waste water services to around a quarter of the UK population. It operates 100 water treatment works, 350 sewage treatment works and numerous pumping stations and reservoirs. Its sewage treatment works include Beckton, the largest in Europe.

Penstocks are vital to the operation of many Thames Water assets. It is, therefore, critical that penstocks are correctly specified, installed and serviced. Glenfield Invicta is unique in being able to provide an integrated solution across both Thames Water’s supply, installation and service requirements.

Alex Philo and Peter Fletcher led Glenfield Invicta’s bid team: ‘Thames Water has recognised the importance of penstocks by awarding mandatory frameworks. Our initial objective to engage with all of Thames Water’s operational teams and framework contractors enabled us to understand how they operate, thus, allowing us to interface effectively. We will also make available a series of learning resources in a variety of formats to help engineers gain a better understanding of penstock specification, design, manufacture, installation and service.’

Peter Fletcher developed Glenfield Invicta’s successful service, maintenance and repair offer: ‘Our basic offer is very strong. I don’t think there is another supplier who can match the breadth of our technical skillset: Glenfield Invicta designs, manufactures, mechanically repairs and refurbishes penstocks, and this includes any electrical or manual actuation. Our track record across both standard and bespoke penstocks is illustrated by our extensive library of case studies which demonstrate over 100 years of history and experience in this field.

Our southern operations centre is located on Thames Water’s doorstep in Maidstone, Kent. More importantly, in terms of being able to offer a rapid response, we have a network of mobile engineers located across all four Thames Water regions. They all carry a profiled stock of replacement parts and spares to ensure we maximise asset uptime for the customer.'

Paul Boyden is Glenfield Invicta’s Managing Director – Commercial: ‘We’re delighted that Thames Water has recognised the experience, skills, and commitment of the Glenfield Invicta workforce. Our focus is firmly on translating the plans we submitted in our tender into solid and measurable results on the ground.’
