The terms ‘HDD’ and ‘trenchless technology’ are used to describe the installation, repair and replacement of underground piping infrastructure without the need for significant surface excavation.
Main industry uses for HDD technology include gas and oil pipelines, coal seam / coal bed methane gas, telecommunications, water, wastewater and sewage, electricity, environmental protection and remediation. The use of HDD and trenchless technology in industry is significant with coal seam gas industry alone estimated to spend in excess of AUD $2 billion just in Queensland and New South Wales alone.
